Mental Health and Wellbeing

Mental health affects our emotional and psycho-social well-being. It is all about how we think, feel and act. It also helps determine how we understand and manage our emotions, how we relate to others and how we respond to people and situations. Mental health is important at every stage of our life right from childhood and adolescence through to adulthood and old age.

Recognition of Emotion

Being aware of our emotions enable us to build better relationships by understanding our feelings clearly, resolving conflicts easily and responding sensibly even during challenging times. It is important to foster positive emotions such as hope, joy, affection, compassion, inspiration etc. Whilst it is necessary to learn how to handle negative emotions such as fear, anger, jealousy, loneliness, self-criticism etc.

Biopsychosocial Factors

Biopsychosocial factors consider the elements of biological, psychological and social and the complex interactions between these elements that could result in various illnesses, mental health issues and psychological disorders.  The effects of genetics, family pressures, societal stresses and psychological difficulties are evident on our mind, body and overall wellbeing. Hence, these factors influence our mental, physical and emotional states.

Towards Wellbeing

It is a known fact that wellbeing matters and we all seek ultimate wellbeing in our lives. Wellbeing gives us the feeling of contentment, happiness, fitness and success. It is a state of mindfulness, resilience and positivity which enables us to achieve our aspirations, gain work and life satisfaction, embrace growth-mindset and realise a sense of purpose. It is a state of feeling well. We start to sense this feeling since our early days of life.
